Govardhana Charitam. Vol III Book VII Chp 22 Shlokas 23 - 26
पित्रार्जितं धनं सर्वं नाशयामास दुर्जनैः |
ताडयामास कमलां वेश्यासङ्गकुतूहलः ||
मधुपानमदोन्मत्तं विस्मृतस्वीयबानधवम् |
विलोक्य कमला नाथं नितरां दुःखमाप सा ||
दुःखस्यान्तमपश्यन्ती पश्यन्ती पतिमीदृशम् |
विष्णुदासं महात्मानं स्मृत्वा स्मृत्वा रुरोद सा ||
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे सोपि विष्णुदासो यदृच्छया |
आजगाम कृपासिन्धुर्गोवर्धनगृहं पुनः ||
He frittered away the whole of his ancestral property in the company of the malicious ones. Caught in the grip of prostitutes he also ill-treated his wife Kamala. Kamala became very sad to see her husband thus remaining oblivious of all his relatives due to the intoxication born of drinking. Finding her husband’s plight Kamala experienced unending sorrow. She thought of mahatma Vishnudasa again and again and wept bitterly. Amidst the situation one day, unexpectedly the most compassionate Vishnudasa visited Govardhana’s house.
