Shri Tukaram Charitam II Vol III Book VIII Chp 9 Shlokas 10 - 12
तुकारमः क्वचिद्गत्वा दास्यन्चक्रेपि कस्यचित् |
उञ्चवृत्तावान्मनक्ष्चानधिकारं स्मरन् प्रभुः ||
तुकारामस्य माहात्म्यं ज्ञात्वा क्षेत्रपतिक्ष्च सः |
इक्षुदण्डान् ददु प्रेम्णा बहूंस्तस्मै महात्मने ||
विक्रेतुकामो भक्तक्श्च स्वारोप्य शकटं च तान् |
भार्यया चोदितस्तूर्णं पण्डरीक्षेत्रमागतः ||
Mahatma Tukaram considered that he was not a person fit enough to gather food stuff in the name of the Lord (by unchavritti) from those who were interested in offering and hence he sought employment with a man. The employer knew the greatness of Tukaram and hence, with true affection, he gave the mahatma some sugarcane sticks. As instructed by his wife, Tukaram got into a cart along with those sticks and moved towards Pandaripuram in order to sell them
