King Shivaji said

Release her, release her at once. She is my mother. We will all be burnt and destroyed if this chaste woman gets angry. A man should protect other women too as he protects his own mother, wife and sister. How can I, a disciple of Shri Rama and a man of determination look straight at the faces of other women, not respecting them duly? If you want to take revenge on the muslims who abduct our women, who are real gems, bring their heads in thousands and heap them here. That will suit our high position. I hold this sword only to protect chaste women, Brahmanas, cows, and the temples of Gods. Soldiers! Take my command! Leave her in her parents house. Thus prove the purity of heart of the people of India and their noble purpose.

As commanded by Shri Samartha Ramadasa, Shivaji safeguarded India that was completely subdued by the muslims. Emperor Shivaji used to spread the Divine Name of “Jaya Shri Raghuvira Samartha” everywhere. He murdered Abdul Khan, a general of the muslims who used to slaughter the cows, kill the Brahmanas and molest the wives of others and demolish The Hindu temples. The muslim leader that had lost the leader retreated. Then soldiers of Shivaji retreated the palace of the enemy, arrested his wife and brought her before Shivaji in order to take revenge on the sinner who had smiled many chaste women in India. She stood before Shivaji with folded hands. Looking at that beautiful woman, Shivaji got up in excitement. He respected her as a son reveres his mother. Then with eyes reddened with anger he looked at his soldiers and ordered thus.

In India, there was a very great and famous emperor named Shivaji who was a disciple of Shri Ramadasa. He was holding the sword in his hand mainly for the protection of the brahmanas, the chaste women and the cows. The appalling darkness of the terror caused by the muslim armies that had surrounded India was eradicated by the light of the strength and valor spread by his sword. I want to given an account of the glory of that emperor who was whirling as a bee round the lotus feet of Shri Ramadasa.

Ravana and Duryodhana who were proud of their fortunes were totally destroyed as they ill-treated the wives of others. Indra, the king of the devas, who had performed hundred yarns, who had the Vajrayudha in his possession and who had enormous physical strength was pulled down by his desire to have another woman which induced him to deal badly with her. Also Chandra (the moon got) who possesses such a charm that pleases the whole world is cursed with the disease of waning (equivalent to tuberculosis) as he attempted to have possession of another person’s wife. Hence, the chastity of women should be jealously safeguarded at all costs by the men of good character.

Where the women are respected there the Gods are pleased. For only the women safeguard dharma. Only dharma bestows great happiness. The wives of others should be treated as mothers and sisters. On one’s own wife, one should shower affection as Shri Rama did. Inspire of being very strong, famous, courageous and having the strength of severe penance, if one nurtures a desire for the wives of others, he gets totally destroyed.

Like this, the Lord of all the worlds comes into the fold of the bhaktas and carries on many leelas that provide great happiness to them. The hardened, wicked persons do not know the magnificence of Shri Bhagavan, who is the very embodiment of love and hence they bring disgrace to the practice of idol worship. If we have unshakeable faith, Shri Keshava will incarnate even in this Kaliyuga. Did He not emerge as Narahari out of the stony pillar once? One who reads with firm belief the life history of Shri Ramadasa, which has the capacity to eradicate all sins, will definitely see Shri Rama face to face.

Shri Panduranga, who was thus requested by Ramadasa and who values the Brava of the bhaktas, gave him darshan as Shri Rama. He had long limbs; long and beautiful eyes, and a very broad chest. He was adorned with the crown, necklace, ear-rings and shoulder-bands. He was anointed with fragrant red sandal paste. He was clad in gorgeous yellow silks; He was holding the Kodanda bow in His hand; Shri Ramadasa saw in front of him the Supreme Being the one extolled by the holy scriptures and whose Name bestows happiness on the devotees; the Omniscient, the supreme Lord of all the worlds, the one embraced with joy by Devi Janaki, the one venerated by Lakshmana, the only worshipful Lord too, who is seated on the throne of pearls and the one worshipped by Hanuman and other monkey devotees. Having seen thus the Lord, Shri Ramadasa fainted due to unsurpassed divine joy, and fell at the holy feet of Shri Vitthala, the Lord of the world. Then, he held his folded hands high above his head, shouted the Divine Name, “Rama, Rama” and jumped about like a mad man. Again Shri Panduranga, the treasure-chest of mercy presented Himself in His usual form. He embraced the bhakta who had become almost insane with untold affection, and consoled him.

Shri Ramadasa prayed

Oh! Lord! Why are You standing here on the bank of the river Bheema leaving that of river Sarayu? Why are You standing with Devi Rukmini instead of Devi Janaki? Leaving behind the monkeys, why are you playing with the cow boys ? Why are you holding the flute leaving the bow? Lord! Oh! Raghava! Understand my Brava. Please accept my request and give me your darshan in that form of Yours.

Having spoken thus, the profoundly compassionate and generous Ekanatha gave the Ganga water to the donkey. The donkey drank the water and hence stood up with great excitement born of his affectionate for Shri Ekanatha. The donkey thus helped by Ekanatha with water to drink, disappeared immediately. In his place, Shri Bhagavan, the Lord of Devi Rukmini, Shri Panduranga was seen as follows: He was clad in yellow silks. He was so handsome as to excel even Manmatha. He was adorned with sylvan flowers. He had a beautiful and charming form with a lustrous complexion of the rain-bearing clouds. His hands was resting on His hips. His chest was marked with the Insignia of Shri. His ears were adorned with dangling Makara kundalas. His exquisite form was enchanting the whole world and His countenance was beautified by a sweet smile. Looking at Shri Pandarinatha, the Lord of all the worlds, and the consort of Devi Lakshmi, Ekanatha submitted his venerations with folded hands and embraced Him with love and devotion. Lord Vitthala also embraced Ekanatha, His distinguished devotee. He bestowed happiness on his devotee with soothing words full of great affection.

Oh! Scholar! Each living being has to bear the result of its karma. Happiness or sorrow results from the deeds of the past birth only. Which rational man will give the Ganga water being taken to be offered to Shri Vitthala to a sinful donkey?

This donkey is Shri Panduranga Himself come here. No enquiry is necessary. I am going to give Him this Ganga water I have. You unfortunate ones can go now. What benefit does the pilgrimage bestow upon you who have no sympathy at all? As Lord Vishnu alone is present everywhere, there is no one on this earth fit to be ever called a sinner.

Next, he went to Prayag, the king of all teerthas and took his dip with all ceremonious rites. From there, he brought the water of Ganga for the holy bath of Lord Vishnu. All those who had come with him, followed him gladly with pots full of the holy Ganga water. Crossing many fields and towns, they were walking towards their own place, very much tired. Exhausted thoroughly, due to the long walk, hunger and thirst, all the pilgrims reached a desert. Even when they were scorched by the sun and severely tested by thirst, the pilgrims did not drink the Ganga water they were carrying for the holy bath of Shri Panduranga. At that time suddenly, there appeared a donkey almost dying, burnt with the sun’s heat and choked with thirst. Looking at that suffering donkey, Ekanatha, the great vaishnava addressed all the pilgrims with great sympathy incidentally reveling the innermost core of dharma.

Lord Krishna is never lost by the one who sees everything in Shri Krishna and in the same way sees Him in everything and every where. Nor does he ever gets destroyed. Even when Shri Madhava, the very embodiment of truth, wisdom and bliss is conspicuously present everywhere, alas, the fools remain atheists due to their ignorance. The proud, selfish and self-exalting fools can never see the omnipresent Shri Madhava, nor can they realize His presence. The noble ones who entertain no discrimination, who worship the Lord offering Him the fresh flower of true love with the fragrance of devotion and who do no harm to others, find the whole world filled with Shri Vishnu
